In a recent Facebook post, Ilir Meta, the president of the Freedom Party, harshly criticized Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements regarding the opening of negotiations for membership in the European Union. Meta described this as a "treachery" of integration.

Meta stressed that, while Rama boasts about opening negotiations, he is ignoring the fact that this development was almost inevitable due to geopolitical reasons, especially after the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, which forced the EU to focus more on such issues. “It would not be good to thank a disaster like the Ukrainian war for opening our country’s negotiations,” Meta wrote.

Meta also criticized Rama for blocking the integration process for years, noting that in 2020 he blocked negotiations due to the appointment of the mayor of Fier District and prevented the holding of local elections without opposition.

Meta argued that, although Albania signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement in 2006 – before Montenegro and Serbia, these two countries opened negotiations earlier, in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

"Rama boasts that he has now opened negotiations, but we all know that these two countries have had great difficulties after the war in Yugoslavia and have not had full support from their societies for EU integration, unlike Albania, where support is massive," Meta added.

Meta also criticizes the way Rama has managed the integration process, emphasizing that his government is more focused on maintaining unparalleled power and personal enrichment, rather than on improving the country and advancing European integration.

According to him, Albania will only achieve integration into the European Union after many decades, when Rama is 110 years old and has served his 20th term as head of government.

Meta's POST:

The "Pride" of the Integration Process

Edi Rama, or the integration tycoon, is proud that negotiations with the European Union have been opened, when it was impossible for them to be postponed further.

(It would not be good to thank a disaster like Russia's war against Ukraine for the opening of our negotiations.)

It wasn't enough for him to block the European integration process for two years because of the mayor of Fier District.

It was not enough for him to block the opening of negotiations for years because he wanted to hold local elections without opposition, as he did, but also many other (intentional) developments (blockages).

But while Albania signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement in 2006, before Montenegro and Serbia, these two countries opened negotiations, Montenegro in 2012 and Serbia in 2014.

While Edi Rama boasts that he has opened them now, when it is known that these two countries have had major problems from the former war in Yugoslavia and also do not have total support from their societies for European integration, quite unlike what is in our country, nationwide support.

Albania is so backward that it has Edi Rama who will sell failure as an achievement and has irresponsibility in his DNA, as absolute power and schizophrenic enrichment are his "ideals".

This is the reason that according to Edi Rama's mediocre, clientelist model, convergence with the European Union can be achieved at these rates of 3.5 - 4%, only after more than half a century or when he turns 110 and approaches his 20th term at the head of the Government.

If there is any real reason to be "proud", it has to do with the fact that we are the country that even sent IPARD funds for agriculture to incinerators.

Likewise, thanks to Edi Rama's corruption of ambassadors, we heard ambassadors declaring that a country would be better off without a Constitutional Court than with a corrupt Constitutional Court.

How could one of these people not say that it is better for a country to be without a government than with the most corrupt government in Europe?

Likewise, we should be "proud" that only Edi Rama could corrupt FBI chief agent McGonigal and many other prides.

So he is determined, as the unforgettable Teodor Keko said: Fat but proud. Especially for integration.

Once, to defend himself against accusations of his terrible corruption, he declared that there are no thieves taller than 2 meters.

Since this anthropological answer was rejected, the argument now is that if corruption was so high, why were negotiations opened?

There are two main reasons:

First, they could not be postponed indefinitely for geopolitical reasons.

Secondly, as the best way to at least somewhat control a Government that had seized on everything, including the corruption of international officials, and again, here too, the opposition is to blame.
