Media in OSCE: NATO member countries in the Balkans should cooperate against
Fatmir Mediu

The President of PR, Fatmir Mediu , called on NATO member countries in the Balkans to work together to prevent a possible conflict, instigated by Russia.

Mediu represents the Assembly of Albania in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, he held this position during the Organization's Annual Session in Bucharest.

Gathered to discuss the role of the OSCE in the current security architecture, the main concern of the Parliamentary Assembly was the war in Ukraine and the impact on European security.

Emphasizing that Russia has been attacking other countries for 16 years, since the conflict with Georgia, then Crimea and now Ukraine, Mr. Mediu pointed out Albania's position in favor of Ukraine.

"As a NATO member country, we stood by our allies and I hope that the NATO Summit in Washington will bring more fruitful cooperation in support of Ukraine, not only to build their defense, but to win the fight against evil," said Mediu at the Annual Session of the OSCE in Bucharest.

Likewise, Congressman Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Helsinki Committee in the American Congress, in support of Mr. Mediu's position, requests more attention for the Balkans.

With the clarity that Russia's aggression is not only concentrated in Ukraine, Mr. Mediu raised the concern of the action of Russia and its allies in the Balkans through hybrid war, aiming to destabilize the region.

"The situation in Moldova proves that Russia's goal is not only Ukraine. The countries of the Balkans are strongly influenced by the hybrid war from Russia, China, and Iran, which try to fuel new and dormant conflicts. The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the situation in Montenegro, the situation in the North of Kosovo requires more attention and participation of the OSCE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. "- said Fatmir Mediu, proposing cooperation in the region as the best solution, especially between Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro. "In order to stop any possible conflict in the Balkans, I believe it is time for the NATO countries in the Balkans to work together to build a strategy of political and military prevention," Mediu emphasized during his speech at the Annual Session of Parliamentary Assembly being held in Romania.

At the end of the debates, the Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will culminate with the adoption of the Bucharest Declaration, which contains recommendations in the field of security and human rights.
