The international court operating under the International Chamber of Commerce based in Paris has given the final decision on the lawsuit brought by Bankers Petroleum against the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Albania (MIE) and Albpetrol.

The dispute, which Bankers had referred to arbitration, related to the cost recovery procedure under the 2004 Agreement relating to operations in the Patos Marinza oilfield. Bankers asked to keep all the sums generated by the production of Pato Marinza's pitch.

At the end of the trial, Albania prevailed on many of the issues of interpretation of the Agreements before the Court.

The decision concludes that over 236 million dollars of the costs claimed by Bankers and contested by AKBN have been rejected and declared irrecoverable.

The result of the dispute is that Bankers will have to return to Albania sums on account of the Patos Marinza oil field. This will increase the historical profits of the oil field and lead to profit tax payments to the state.

Socialist deputy Erion Braçe also reacted to this decision, saying that he is happy as he emphasizes that he fought hard for this issue.

"Investigating, I discovered that the Bankers lied about the recoverable expenses and that they favored it in relation to the coefficient of 1; I presented this to Sali Berisha's governments, I confronted his Ministers of Energy and Finance, but it was time for them to change their attitude; as chairman of the Economy Commission, I did the same thing with the governments of Edi Rames, his ministers and they verified these claims; "Bankers did not accept the findings, went to Arbitration and finally lost today", emphasizes Braçe.
