Parliament of Albania

The Assembly meets today in its next plenary session, where two normative acts of the Council of Ministers will be discussed, which aim to extend the validity of identification documents of Albanian citizens living and working abroad until the end of May.

These two acts propose to extend the validity period of the electronic ID card and the passport for travel abroad until the end of May 2025, respectively, for Albanian citizens residing abroad, which will enable voting for Albanian citizens abroad who have expired identification documents.

The approval of this proposal will enable the broad participation of voters from outside the territory of the Republic of Albania who will be able to register on the PER platform until March 4 to vote by mail in the parliamentary elections of May 11.

Also, in today's session, the Parliament will also review the draft decision which provides for an additional 80 part-time employees in the Central Election Commission, to cope with the large influx of registrations of Albanian citizens to vote from abroad.

These employees are divided into specialist and operator categories. They will assist the CEC administration in several work processes such as the preparation of electoral documentation sent to voters from abroad, the sending of the voter's electoral documentation, voting and sending of electoral documentation to the CEC by the voter, as well as the storage and administration of electoral documentation sent by the voter from the moment of arrival in the territory of the Republic of Albania and until the start of the counting and evaluation of votes from abroad.

In today's session, the Parliament will also review the draft decision on the election of the Commissioner for Protection and Discrimination.
