Prime Minister Edi Rama has arrived in the village of Vajzë in Vlorë, where the village festival is taking place. Rama was welcomed by the mayor of Selenica, Nertil Bellaj, at a time when this municipality has lined up against the proposal for its merger and unification with the Municipality of Vlorë.

The party is taking place this evening in Vajza, while the debate over the new territorial reform has caused strong reactions in Selenica.

Mayor Nertil Bellaj has spoken out against the dissolution of the Selenica Municipality, stating that he learned of the proposal for its merger only after the draft was published in the media.

At an extraordinary meeting of the City Council, councilors from both the left and right voted against the merger of the municipality. They argued that such a decision would harm the representation and interests of the area's residents.


Bellaj stated that Selenica does not constitute a burden on the state budget, ranking the municipality among the local units with a high level of institutional performance.

One of the concerns raised by the councilors is related to the differences between the areas of Labëria and the more developed areas of Vlora. “Why should a resident of the mountainous villages of Labëria pay the same taxes as a resident living in the most coveted areas of Vlora?” was the question raised by them.

The councilors have called on the elected deputies in the Labëria area to vote against the dissolution of Selenica and its unification with Vlora.

Even the village elders of the Selenica Municipality, present at the meeting, unanimously expressed their opposition to the unification with Vlora, warning of continued protests.

In this climate of debates over territorial reform, Rama's visit to the festival of the village of Vajzë, in the area governed by Bellaj, receives special attention, as the position of the Municipality of Selenica against its merger has already been made public.
