The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Good Neighbourhood, Oliver Varhelyi, will come tomorrow for an official visit to our country.
According to the announcement published by the EU, Varhelyi will be present at the "bypass of Vlora", together with Prime Minister Edi Rama. After the visit, he is expected to attend a joint press conference with Prime Minister Rama.
Varhelyi, together with the high representative of the EU, Josep Borrel, will visit Montenegro as part of the 11th Stabilization and Association Council. On Friday, Borrell will meet a number of senior Montenegrin officials and representatives of civil society.
What is noticeable is that within a short time, the high official of the EU avoids for the second time a meeting with the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta. Even when he visited Tirana in May of this year, he did not hold a meeting with the head of state.
Likewise, officials and former high officials of the American State Department who have come to Tirana in the last two years, have avoided a meeting with President Meta.
The head of state has sometimes stated that these meetings were not held due to agenda issues and sometimes due to protocol reasons.
The truth seems to be neither. Agenda and protocol can get in the way on one, two, or three occasions. However, Meta has been avoided in a series of such cases, especially in the last two years, which cannot be explained only by the protocol and the agenda, but by the fact that the EU and the USA removed his visa in time.
