Berisha's trial against the "non-woman" in London, Home Office
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha

For the first time since its establishment in 1997, England's highest immigration court SIAC (Special Immigration Appeals Commission) is considering a politician's claim.

He is Sali Berisha, declared Non Grata after the USA and by England in 2022 for corruption and links to crime.

Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu reports that Berisha in complete secrecy has agreed with a lawyer company for this process, starting this Tuesday morning. During the next four days, the journalist Muhamed Veliu emphasizes, in his report for the central news edition on Top Channel, the London law firm Zaiwalla and Co together with the legal representative Fergus Randolph KC, will present to this court, the arguments that the decision for the ban on Mr. Berisha's entry to England is unjust.

Mr. Berisha's lawyers in this process are opposing the decision signed by the former secretary for internal affairs Priti Patel.

Top Channel learns that Mr. Berisha's lawyer at the beginning of the process stated that "this is an extraordinary issue between a leader of an opposition and a European country. The decision for Mr. Berisha was made only based on claims of foreign media".

Top Channel also learns that Mr. Berisha's barrister Fargus Randolf told this court that his client Sali Berisha, in no case, has been convicted of any criminal offense in Albania and that he strongly denies the accusations of corruption or criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the defendant, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Home Office, stated that: "The UK government has the security of our country as a priority and it does so by promoting security, prosperity and the rule of law throughout the world. Great Britain has been a partner of Albania, supporting it in accountability and undertaking concrete actions against criminality and corruption".

It would be redundant, says the Home Office, to comment further as the court process is ongoing. Great Britain does not make public the names of those declared NonGrata, but Mr. Berisha himself in a press conference made public this decision taken against him.
