Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka is in Athens today where she is conducting an official visit and met with her counterpart Nikos Dendias. The head of Albanian diplomacy says that the two have held constructive discussions on relations between Albania and Greece.

Meanwhile, the media in the neighboring country have reported this Friday that the two foreign ministers have discussed and will sign today the agreement for sending the sea issue to The Hague. It will be the International Court that will decide on the water borders of the countries.

Protothema writes that in the framework of the bilateral meeting, a political discussion was held on the issue of the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone between the two countries, in the framework of the principle agreement between Albania and Greece to take the case to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Referring to international principles, the limitation of the exclusive economic zone, also known as the continental shelf, between states with opposite or adjacent coasts will be done by agreement based on international law, as mentioned in Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, with the aim of reaching an equitable solution.

Also, in the Xhaçka-Dendia discussions, the European perspective of the Western Balkans was examined, within the framework of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will take place in Tirana.
