Prime Minister Edi Rama held a telephone conversation with his British counterpart Rishi Sunak this afternoon, as reported by Downing Street.

Both leaders praised the close long-term relationship between the United Kingdom and Albania and committed to strengthening cooperation in trade, investment and defence, including cyber security.

Prime Minister Sunak acknowledged the positive contribution of the Albanian community to British society, but both leaders acknowledged that more needs to be done to address illegal immigration and challenge organized crime.

They discussed plans to increase cooperation to address common challenges, including closing loopholes that are preventing the prompt return of rejected asylum seekers.

Rama and Sunak "look forward to working together to address these issues and deepen the comprehensive relationship between the United Kingdom and Albania".
