The Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic has officially announced to the Albanian delegation that "the moment has come to open negotiations between the EU and Albania".
"The moment has begun", he said thus announcing the opening of negotiations.
During his speech, the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic presented the obligations that Albania has during this long journey towards the European Union. He said that the EU expects Albania to respect the European Union treaties on human and minority rights.
" The advantages for both sides are clear. The EU is your biggest partner for good in your investments. We expect compatibility so that the expansion process is more reliable, more dynamic. And it places a lot of importance on the implementation of the enlargement consensus.
In accordance with March 25, 2020, the Council approved on June 18, 2022 the general framework of the extended integration consensus. The negotiations aim at broadening the EU's approach.
Albania should support and implement all reforms, especially corruption reforms, organized crime reforms, public administration. We welcome the fact that Albania is in full agreement with EU policies.
We welcome Albania's readiness for membership, we will support you in your efforts and look forward to being a full member " - she is
Also, he emphasized the necessity for Albania to be a legal state, where human rights are implemented by completing the Law Reform, the reform in the public administration as well as other similar reforms.
"These will be the basis of the negotiations, creating enough time for Albania and the EC to see how things went," he said.
After him, the head of European diplomacy took the floor, Borrel, who said that this is a great achievement and a result of many years of work.
Meanwhile, during his speech, Rama said it is a historic day, which many, even in the EU, believed would not come. Rama emphasized that Albania had long fought against this idea.
"It's hard to believe that this is happening. For a long time we fought against the belief that this would never happen. You know that in Albania we do not agree on everything, but there is one belief that survives all our disagreements: There is no other way but the EU. It is our mission and our destiny.
For centuries we have had to live under empires and regimes that we did not choose. This time is different. Europe is the first time we made a choice. We do this because we believe in this space of peace and security where our children and grandchildren belong. But spese also sponsors another way of thinking in our region", said Rama.
Rama said that Albania has made many painful but appropriate reforms. The Prime Minister mentioned the Justice Reform, stressing that we already have new institutions, built from the ruins of the old ones. The Prime Minister emphasized that this majority has not protected anyone from justice.
Rama added that a Balkan that aims for EU integration will be safer and more peaceful, escaping from the ghosts of the past.
"Believe me, in an area like the Balkans, more concern for the ideals of European integration means less fugitives from history in our political life", said Rama adding that "Europe with its values and principles is what makes possible another Balkan, a Balkan of peace, security and prosperity".
