Prime Minister Rama has expressed his shock at the killing of the former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, who was shot while giving an election speech in Nare.

Through a post on Twitter, Rama expressed his deepest condolences to the politician's family and to the Japanese people.

Rama writes that the assassination of Shinzo Abe highlights how much the foundations of democracy are shaken when politicians are seen as enemies to be destroyed and not as opponents to be engaged.

" Shocked and saddened by the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Our deepest condolences to his family and the people of Japan.
