16:00 is close but the parties are far from consensus on the election of the president. So the second round is heading towards a burnout where neither side should nominate candidates at the table.
An agreement of "misunderstandings" was reached between them at the conference of mayors four days ago but as the DP started working to take steps to nominate candidates, the SP clarified that it would not give signatures to opposition candidates.
Alibeaj proposed a formula according to which the DP would nominate four candidates and then the majority would select the two names that enjoy the most trust.
After that, a commission consisting of 6 members, 3 from SP and 3 from PD, reviews the 2 selected candidates and agrees on the joint selection and proposal of one of the candidates. The selected candidate would be subject to the plenary voting process.
But the head of the SP parliamentary group Taulant Balla stated in a press conference that it was all a misunderstanding as the left will not give signatures to the DP candidates, having no guarantee that the names they will bring to the table will be worthy of running the presidency.
Today, Balla from Fier again called on the Democratic Party to reflect and not to waste the remaining hours on the nomination of candidates. The second round expires at 16:00, but the DP has withdrawn from the commitment to submit candidates arguing that the SP violated the agreement.
The secretary of the PD parliamentary group, Arbi Agalliu, while responding to Balla, said today that after learning about the serious candidates of the Democrats, the SP withdrew from the agreement.
