The General Secretary of the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknuri, has sued the PD MP Agron Shehaj for defamation. The lawsuit came after Shehaj's denunciation that the Government has declared Gjiknuri's uncle's son a strategic investor, to build a resort near the Butrint archeological park. 

Asked about the accusations made by the opposition MP in connection with the Butrint case, Gjiknuri called them slanders and stated that he has already filed a lawsuit in court.

"I went to court for defamation against Mr. Shehaj that he says that I have interests there and he is my uncle's son etc. First once this is the greatest ignorance, it objectively does not stand, it is not of that close family connection claimed there. Secondly I do not know that anyone who deals with business and has my last name and has not benefited anything from the state is a problem. But it gives me a reassurance that it has nothing to say against me that and trace anyone who has my last name.

Po me z. Shehaj, I am dealing with the Court of Tirana. I filed the defamation lawsuit. Mr. Shehaj to go there to prove the statements he has made and the violations or benefits that I may have made from what he has accused me of. "I did it to other people and I won," Gjiknuri told News 24.
