The Commissioner for Enlargement in the European Union, Marta Kos, has reacted to the statements of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, towards the EU Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, regarding his sexual orientation.
Commissioner Kos says that such attacks are unacceptable.
“Gender equality and non-discrimination are an integral part of EU law.
Compliance with it is part of the EU accession process.
This is not a private request of the EU Ambassador to Albania.
"Any attack on him is unacceptable ," writes Marta Kos.

DP leader Sali Berisha said that the European Union ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, has requested a vote on the draft law on gender equality.
Berisha even added that Gonzato cannot impose his personal beliefs on Albanian society.
"I say this to the EU Ambassador, sir, we absolutely respect everyone's sexual orientation, but your efforts to impose standards of multiple gender affiliation, of gender in wide diversity, in addition to the binary one, on Albanian society, and I say here, even in your status you are binary.
We don't deal with the treatment, he has children, he had a wife, he made his decisions later, as he explained, because I don't want to deal with his personal life at all. So the law has nothing in common. Let him tell the Albanians which EU directive talks about multiple gender affiliation. Let him come out, put it out there", Berisha said today.
