Opposition leader Sali Berisha has made strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, stating that the latter has assigned himself the highest pension ever in the history of Albania.
According to Berisha, Rama has set himself a pension of 4 million lek per month, which means about 48 million lek per year, at a time when the country was engulfed in fires.
"Edi Rama set for himself a pension 30 times larger than the average pension in Albania. The average annual pension according to INSTAT is only 1.6 million lek," Berisha said, adding that such a decision is unprecedented and worthy only of "rare dictators."
He emphasized that the president has also been assigned a lower pension, of 3.5 million lek per month, while for Rama this has been a "summer preoccupation", instead of dealing with the problems of citizens.
"This is the ugliest public deception and a testament to his arrogance. I guarantee that he will never enjoy this pension," Berisha said.
