"I'm getting calls from people unhappy with him" - Will Trump

US President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to keep Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, despite receiving calls from people expressing dissatisfaction with his leadership.

"I have every intention of keeping him in this position," Trump said.

Trump acknowledged that some people had contacted him to raise concerns about Hegseth, but questioned the criticism of him.

"I'm getting these calls, you know, about it. I don't understand why," he said.

Trump acknowledged that confirming a new defense secretary would be easier before Democrats take control of the Senate in January, as they will have the majority needed to vote against any proposed nominee.

Yesterday, Trump dismissed reports that he was considering replacing Hegseth, telling reporters that the defense secretary was "doing a very good job."

The Pentagon's chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, was quoted as saying that Hegseth "will not back down and will not be deterred by politicians seeking to score points for partisan interests."

"Secretary Hegseth is 100 percent committed to leading the department through the end of President Trump's term," Parnell said.

Earlier, Vice President JD Vance said that the reason for the Republicans' loss in the midterm elections is the war with Iran.

Democrats have long criticized both the war itself and the way Hegseth has managed it.
