A Ukrainian who speaks Albanian and teaches courses in the Albanian language, this is Lena Sallashna. It was not the war in Ukraine that forced Lena to leave her country, but the desire to explore a beautiful country with traditions like Albania.
"Actually, I don't live here because of the war, I live here because Albania is like my home now, I feel more at home in Albania than in Ukraine. I have been living in Albania for 6 years, I worked in a tourist agency", says the Ukrainian.
Lena chose the city of Vlora to continue her journey, first learning Albanian and then working in the tourism sector, while today, after 6 years, she also offers Albanian language courses to all her friends who visit the touristic city: "Before I came to Albania, I didn't know a word of Albanian, I started giving individual lectures to foreigners a year ago. With every student I have, I become more confident."
Traveling, she has shared fantastic parts of her journey in a blog called "Lena in Albania", while working as a blogger she has integrated well with the local people: "I created the blog 2 years ago, at first I only posted funny video about Albania, Albanians, about traditions. Now I post more photos about the trips."
Recently, the 24-year-old Ukrainian woman says that she would like to invest and live in Vlora, seeing the coastal city as a city with many opportunities for the future: "In general, it is not easy to live alone in a foreign country and I'm here alone, this is a challenge that makes you even stronger. When I came the first year I wanted to live in Vlora and buy a house here, in the future I will buy a house, as I think Vlora has a lot of potential because it is a wonderful place".
During the 2023 season, at least 35% of the tourists who visited Vlora were Ukrainians, and this percentage remains on the rise throughout this year, while a good part of them, like the Italians, have become residents./ A2CNN
