It's useless to deny it. Tom Cruise likes challenges. And apparently, he's not a big fan of rule-followers. Now the official announcement that many of his fans have been waiting for has arrived: Tom Cruise will shoot his next movie in space. Aside from the green screen: the actor is preparing to be the first civilian to take a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.
The plan? "Let's bring a rocket to the Space Station and make a movie."
The news of this major project focusing on the 60-year-old American film actor and producer came from Donna Langley, president of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The first British woman to head a major US film studio told the BBC:
"I think Tom Cruise is taking us into space. This is the plan. We have a big project in development with Tom… Taking a rocket to the Space Station and making a movie…”
Donna LangleyAnd continues. "The character goes into space to save the day, and I hope Cruise becomes the first civilian to take a spacewalk outside the Space Station."
The new film will be directed by Doug Liman (producer and director who previously directed Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow and Barry Seal). And, apparently, to get the "space" scenes in-house (meaning, among other things, high-resolution cameras operated by the same actors), Universal would consider a deal with Tesla as an option. Elon Musk.
Tom Cruise's success with 'Top Gun: Maverick'
Tom Cruise is back from a smash hit for the latest chapter of Top Gun. The film grossed over $1,405,798,255 worldwide, compared to an expected $500-600 million. And it became the highest grossing for a Tom Cruise film and the 45th highest grossing of all time.
A truly global success that prompted Universal to focus even more on Cruise, now as an actor in space. Now 36 years after the release of the first chapter (it was May 12, 1986), Top Gun: Maverick has entrusted the theme song of the film to Lady Gaga. Thus came Hold My Hand, written especially for the film by Gaga herself.
Speaking about her on James Corden's 'The Late Late Show', Cruise said: “ Lady Gaga is incredible. It's not just on the soundtrack. She actually helped compose the original score and it was incredible."
And, explaining how Gaga brought Hold My Hand to him and composer Hans Zimmer. “Doing the soundtrack and music of any film is definitely something very important. She introduced us her song and opened the whole movie. It just opened those doors to the emotional core of the movie that we had. In that moment, things fell into place, in such a beautiful way. The song she wrote just ended up in the movie and became the soundtrack and the beating heart of our movie."
