After more than a month of examinations, the veterinarians of the University Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety revealed the causes of the death of a whale.
The reason is related to an amber-gray stone weighing 9 kilograms and 60 centimeters in diameter, which was stuck in the gut of the whale found in La Palma of the Canary Islands.
The stone was found very close to the distal colon, which is believed to be causing intestinal transit obstruction. According to experts, we are dealing with a solidified bile secretion.

"A stone similar to a kidney stone, which has a high value in the perfume sector," says the scientific report.
This stone costs at least 500 thousand euros, but for the whale it was a real deadly treasure.
The whale in question was found stranded on Nogales Beach on May 21. The veterinary pathologists of the local University had immediately ruled out anthropic causes in the death of the animal.

At the beginning of the 19th century, scientists discovered that whales, which eat large quantities of squid, which they usually cannot digest and regurgitate, manage to synthesize certain amounts of the waste of these animals, which leading to the creation of amber, which is sometimes excreted into the sea, while more often it gets stuck in the whale's appendix, which ruptures and the whale dies, writes The Guardian.
Amber is a rare substance, also known as "floating gold", which, due to its pleasant smell, is the "holy grail" for perfume manufacturers.
The University of Las Palmas is now looking for a buyer for the piece of amber, and Fernardes said they hope the funds raised will go to help victims of the island's 2021 volcanic eruption, which caused 800 million euros in damage.
