To travel back in time! The plane takes off in 2023, lands in 2022

Air travel brings with it many benefits, improving global connectivity to boost economies, trade routes and tourism. But if there is one unique thing that air travel has allowed travelers to do, it would be time travel.

This is what happened to passengers on board two different United Airlines flights, writes Simple Flying.

Although they had reached New Year 2023 in one part of the world, they would have another chance to experience the countdown again when they landed somewhere else on December 31.

While one particular United Airlines long-haul flight had issues that would cause its passengers to miss the New Year's countdown in Australia, this particular time travel flight in question was UA 858.

On December 31, UA 858 departed from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at approximately 20:38 and arrived at Incheon International Airport at 22:54. After a New Year's midnight departure, UA 858 departed the airport about half an hour later at 12:29 a.m. before flying more than 6,000 miles (9,100 km) west and crossing the international line, arriving at San Francisco International Airport at 17:01, allowing passengers to relive the last hours of 2022.
