Rita Ndoci: Parashqevia and I have had the warm arms of the Politburo! (VIDEO of
Rita Ndoci

Artist  Rita Ndoci spoke about meeting Parashqevi Simaku, their walks and festivals.

She showed how the regime treated artists before the 1990s. Ndoci shows that without strong support at that time from Politburo officials, artists had no support to move forward.

How did the regime, the government, the party organizations, the youth organizations, the State Security, the police, behave towards you artists, towards Parashqevë? Because you were making art and art was in danger.

' I think that without strong support from officials, we wouldn't have had so much support.

Parashqevi was adored by a member of the Politburo and she had support. I had a friend, the daughter of a member of the Bureau. We had our wings covered. I survived and adapted to that system in the most terrible way.

I was the first to imitate Nexhmije Hoxha in 1988, when I was in the dormitory. Those who listened to it could have been sentenced to 8 years in prison and I could have ended up being shot.

To do this takes courage. When Parashqevia came, I didn't imitate it anymore because I was afraid of the people around me. I've also been careful about some things.

Rita Ndoci also spoke about the situation in Parashqevië.

"Parashqevia decided on her own to wait for her son at that train station, perhaps until she gave up. But I suffer with what is happening. Her privacy was completely violated. Why did she sing there in secret? There may have been people who noticed her and passed by. That way of honoring her is more humiliating for me. For me, Parashqevia has been killed twice. Albanian society seemed to me like the lightning bolt of '74 that we read against artists, educated figures.

If I were given the opportunity now, I would make a phone call between colleagues and Parashqevi.

I would say to him: " Parashqevi, you have achieved all your goals! But maybe it's time for the things you don't achieve, to get over the situation, to strengthen yourself, spiritually, psychologically, to cope with that failure. This is human strength. It doesn't matter how we fall, it matters how we get up. You have to get up, and succeed for yourself, but also for your son ," she said./Dritare.net
