Actress and singer Selena Gomez has reacted with a sharp post on Instagram to a statement by Republican politician Sam Parker, who criticized her for a moving video in which she expressed her concern about Donald Trump's immigration policies.

Parker, the 2018 Republican Senate candidate from Utah, tweeted: "Selena Gomez should be deported," following her criticism of the deportation of Mexicans.

However, Gomez was not left unmoved. She responded with a direct and humorous tweet: “Oh Mr. Parker, thanks for the laugh and the threat.” Her quick and very socially conscious response has drawn attention, emphasizing that, while it is natural to react to such policies, she will not remain silent to protect the rights of others.

Gomez has previously spoken about the history of immigrants in her family and the sacrifices they made, including her aunt's difficult journey to cross the border in a truck.
