Who is Dara, who brought Eurovision to Bulgaria for the first time and the love story with the doctor?

Dara, the big winner of Eurovision 2026, who represented Bulgaria with the song "Banagaranga", stood out with her performance, but something that did not go unnoticed was the hug and kiss with her husband.

Ervin Ivanov, a doctor in Bulgaria, seems to have been Dara's motivation for competing in her country for Eurovision, which resulted in victory.

After the victory was announced, there were exchanges of hugs and kisses between the couple, which immediately went viral.

"I want to thank my husband because he was the person who pushed me to come to Eurovision. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to come or not, because I had anxiety and self-doubt and he was the person who pushed me and told me, 'you have to go to Eurovision now, you have to go, pick up the phone, tell them you're going'. Because of my family, because of him and all this love that I have in my golden circle, that's why I'm here," Dara said.

Who is the doctor that Dara is in love with?

Her 35-year-old husband is not from the music industry, but has been in the spotlight in the Bulgarian media because of their relationship.

Ervin Ivanov is active in the field of innovative drug development and research in Pharmacology and Toxicology, with a specialization in chemotherapy and targeted therapies. According to his CV, his latest research focuses on cannabinoids and other active substances of natural origin, as well as their modifications.

Dara has spoken publicly about their relationship and the role Ivanov played in her life, noting in a previous interview that her husband helped her overcome personal insecurities and see the meaning of relationships and family life differently.

"As a child of divorced parents, I said to myself: 'Well, these Disney fairy tales about princesses and princes are not true.' It took me a long time to be able to heal that wound in myself. The day I met Ervin, I knew that this was my husband and I was going to marry him," she said.

The couple got engaged in February 2024, when Ivanov proposed to Dara in Thailand. They were originally scheduled to get married that same year, but the ceremony took place in the summer of 2025.

Who is Dara?

Singer and composer, 27 years old, but her artistic journey began in childhood.

Originally from Varna, a city on the Black Sea coast, Darina (her real name, Dara her stage name) grew up obsessively involved with music. She attended the National School of Arts in Varna, where she specialized in folk singing, which may come as a surprise after the performance “Banagaranga.”

At just 16 years old, Dara came third in the Bulgarian “X Factor” and signed a contract with one of the biggest labels in Bulgaria, and has since released numerous songs. She was one of the mentors on “The Voice of Bulgaria” and last year released her album “ADHDARA”. There is a history behind the name of this album, as she was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Asked before the final night what Bulgaria's Eurovision victory would mean to her if it happened, Dara said, "A victory would be in a completely different dimension. But I want to be honest with you. A victory would be extraordinary and I will compete to win, absolutely. But what motivates me just as much is the idea of ??Bulgaria being seen. Really seen. We are a small country with a great cultural soul, ancient, complex, stubborn in the best sense. We have a musical heritage that the world has barely known. If "Banagaranga" can be the song that makes someone in Manchester, Edinburgh or Brighton pick up the phone and search for Bulgaria, search for its music, its coast, its literature, its people, then I have achieved something real."
