The toxicology analysis on Liam Payne's body has not yet been completed, the Argentine authorities reported after the news that the presence of cocaine was discovered in the singer's body.
A representative of the state attorney's office met with the 31-year-old's father, Geoff Payne, who is in Argentina. Andrés Esteban Madrea informed him that the toxicological and histopathological analyzes have not yet been completed and the results must be released before the body is handed over to the family.
Foreign media have reported the statement of an official who said that the preliminary toxicological analysis resulted in the presence of cocaine, more precisely the drug cocktail known as "pink cocaine", a mixture of ketamine, methamphetamine and ecstasy.
This analysis has been handed over to prosecutors but they believe it is not an accurate determination of the amount of drugs circulating in Liam's blood at the time of death. Final results will not be released for several weeks.
Investigators found narcotics and alcohol strewn about the objects and broken furniture in the Buenos Aires hotel room where Payne was staying, leading them to believe the singer had experienced a drug-induced emotional outburst.
The prosecution said Payne may have been "semi- or fully unconscious" when he fell from the balcony. He received "severe injuries" when his body landed in the hotel courtyard.
Minutes before Liam tragically passed away, the hotel receptionist notified an emergency operator that there was a "customer who was drunk and on drugs" who was "breaking everything in the room".
