Montenegro and Macedonia will not compete in next year's Eurovision because of the high costs they have to pay. Participating states pay a fee to participate in the contest, but the amount varies depending on the size of the country.

BBC News reports that some countries have been asked to pay more after Russia was banned from the Eurovision contest. We recall that Russia, a major financial contributor, was excluded from this year's competition after invading Ukraine.

"In addition to the significant costs of registration fees, as well as the cost of staying in Great Britain, we also faced a lack of interest from sponsors, so we decided to use existing resources to finance current and planned national projects." said Montenegro's public broadcaster RTCG.

The total cost for all participating countries to take part in the music competition is usually up to around £5 million, but exactly how much each participant pays is not made public.

It is said that several other countries may also consider withdrawing from Eurovision as a result of the additional cost. Eurovision will take place in Liverpool.
