The month of November, in the western world is also known as "No Nut November", which means that young people are encouraged not to masturbate throughout November.
Studies have shown that giving up frequent masturbation can bring benefits, such as increasing sperm levels.
But more problematic than masturbation itself, scientists consider pornography, or addiction to it. Pornography use can be part of compulsive behavior, with negative consequences on physical, mental, social or financial well-being.
While a young man has decided to take his challenge to the extreme, staying not only a month without masturbating, but as he claims, a whole year.
Youtuber Dalati says it's not necessarily masturbation that's bad, but actually the act of watching so much porn because it teaches you an unrealistic approach to intimacy.
So, by giving it up, he found that "his mind was much clearer."
"I noticed a benefit of increased concentration," he said.
“So instead of constantly being distracted and having it (porn/masturbation) on my mind, I was able to put my full attention and energy into it if I was doing work… if I was working out at the gym, whatever I was doing at at this point, my focus increased," he explained.
He also noticed an "increase in self-confidence" because he was living his life the way it "should be" without having "extreme dopamine rushes every day."
"I felt much more like myself and my approach to situations was much more realistic," explained Dalati.
He admitted that he had the most difficult first two weeks of the ban, because he was "constantly coming across the desire" that was "reaching the roof".
After that, the benefits started and he says he "calmed down".
