A French tourist couple who were filmed having sex on a Thai beach have caused outrage.

Alan , 24, and his girlfriend, Nadia , 24, were arrested after a photo of them naked on the sand at Rayee Beach in Phuket went viral over the weekend.

Eyewitnesses described how the young Frenchmen made no attempt to hide, with some claiming they could be heard from the other side of the beach.

"A lot of foreigners do this when they come here. They're like animals. I would rather be poor, with no tourists visiting me, than live in this environment," said one local.

After the riots, police tracked the couple to a hotel in the Kata area and arrested them.

According to police, the two admitted to having sex on the beach and were later fined 5,000 baht (130 euros) for “ committing an indecent act in a public place with nudity or exposure of the body, or for committing other indecent acts .”
