Actress Ruby Rose has accused singer Katy Perry of an alleged sexual assault incident that she says occurred about two decades ago at a Melbourne nightclub.
On the other hand, the singer's representative has categorically denied the accusations, describing them as false and dangerous.
In a statement to TMZ, Perry's representative said:
“The allegations circulating on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only false, but also dangerously inaccurate and reckless. Ms. Rose has a history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, allegations that have been consistently denied by those named.”
According to Ruby Rose's statements, the alleged incident occurred when she was around 20 years old, at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne.
The actress known for the series "Batgirl" and "Orange Is the New Black" made the claim public on social media, responding to a Complex post regarding Katy Perry's reaction to a Justin Bieber performance at Coachella.
In one of her posts, she wrote:
"Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who cares what she thinks."
Then, when asked for more details, she described the alleged incident:
"She didn't kiss me. She saw me resting in my best friend's arms to avoid her and she leaned over, pulled my underwear to the side and pressed her genitals into my face until I opened my eyes and puked on her."
In another post, Ruby Rose added:
“I had told the story publicly, but I had presented it as a 'funny story about a drunk' because I didn't know how else to handle it. Later, she agreed to help me get a visa to the US. So I kept it a secret.”
In her reactions on social media, Ruby Rose stated that she has decided to speak publicly after nearly two decades, emphasizing that it took her time to cope with the experience and find the strength to share it.
She added that such trauma and experiences can have a long-term impact on victims.
Katy Perry has not given a direct personal response, but her representatives have categorically denied the allegations.
