At a time when images created by Artificial Intelligence have begun to enter art and photography competitions over the past two years, sometimes fooling judges and provoking anxiety and anger among artists, one artist has chosen to do the opposite.

Photographer Miles Astray decided it was time to change course. In an Artificial Intelligence category, he chose to compete with a real picture of a flamingo he had taken in Aruba.

The flamingo appeared headless, as it is shown lowering its neck to scratch itself with its beak.

To Astray's surprise, he won third place in the category and the audience award.

The reason why he did it was simple.

“I entered this current photo in the AI category of the 1839 Awards to prove that human-made content has not lost its importance, that Mother Nature and humans can still beat the machine. Also, to show that creativity and emotion are more than just a string of numbers," wrote Astray.
