From January 1 of this year, the law came into force to tax 15% of the income that influencers provide on social networks. Meanwhile, referring to the income tax guidance, if the social media influencer, registered as self-employed, provides 80% of the gross income from 1 single client, or 90% of the gross income from less than 3 clients, then for the purposes of calculating the tax liability on his annual/monthly net income, the salary tax rates will be applied.
But what does this mean?
According to the Altax center, if the monthly income is between the limit 0-50 thousand ALL, or 600 thousand gross ALL per year, the tax is 0. If the monthly income is between the limit 50-60 thousand ALL, or up to 720 thousand gross ALL in year, the monthly tax is 13% times.
But if the monthly income is between 60-200 thousand ALL, the tax is 13% times. Meanwhile, if the monthly income is over 200,000 ALL, the monthly tax is 23% of the value over 200,000 ALL, adding the monthly value of 22,100 ALL.
The calculation of the tax liability will be done by the social media influencer who meets these criteria in his annual tax return. While the influencer is usually required to submit an annual return and pay taxes assessed as per the declared data.
But, in addition to income tax, social media3 influencers may have to fulfill other tax obligations, such as Value Added Tax.
Income earned from social media websites can be considered business income. Even in this case, VAT registration must be done if the invoiced turnover of 10 million lek per year is exceeded.
