In Ibiza, climate activists used sprite paint to spray footballer Lionel Messi's luxury villa.

They then photographed themselves in front of the house, located in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talai.

The campaign comes from the "Futuro Vegetal" activist group. Lionel Messi grew up in simple circumstances in Argentina. His mother was a cleaner and his father was a factory worker. He earned his current fortune of around €550 million through talent, hard training and dedication to playing football. But for Spanish climate activists, Messi is on the wrong side of society.

Their explanation for the vandalism was that they wanted to show the responsibility of the rich for the climate crisis and the villa was also an illegal building.

The football star is already trying to find a solution to the problem. His lawyers are in contact with the Spanish authorities, foreign media reports.

Messi bought the 16,000 square meter property with a 568 square meter villa and infinity pool directly in a nature reserve from a Swiss entrepreneur for €11 million
