Donald Trump

The first minutes of Donald Trump's speech after leaving the courtroom sound familiar to anyone who has heard his campaign speech before.

He says he has been persecuted since the launch of his campaign in 2016, after providing no evidence.

The accusations against him, a historic case in the USA, for a president or former president, Trumo describes as "fraud".

During the speech, he also mentions the raid of his apartment by the FBI in 2022, to find sensitive government documents.

"Our country is going to hell. It's an insult to our country because the world is already laughing at us," said Trump

Donald Trump's next court date is not until December, meaning he will appear as a criminal defendant just weeks before the Republican primaries, which determine who will become the presidential nominee.

Will this be a problem for his campaign, or can the prosecution turn this to his electoral advantage?

In the days since it was announced he would face criminal charges, his poll ratings have soared and his campaign claims to have raised more than $10 million.

So his strategy of claiming to be the victim of a politically motivated witch hunt seems to be working, so far.

But Donald Trump is facing more legal investigations. He could still be charged in the state of Georgia with trying to interfere in the results of the 2020 presidential election. And in Washington, DC, a special counsel is looking into his role in the January 6 riots in the US capital and hundreds of classified documents found at his home in Florida.

Even for a politician as courageous as Donald Trump, the battle of the presidential election at the same time as one or more criminal court cases will be more than complicated.
