The Israeli military says it is helping UN forces in Syria who have been attacked by "armed individuals", according to the BBC.

In a post on social media, the Israel Defense Forces said: "A short while ago, an attack was carried out by armed individuals on a UN post in the Hader area in Syria.

The IDF is currently assisting UN forces in repelling the attack. The IDF has deployed reinforced forces to the Golan Heights area and will continue to operate to protect the State of Israel and its citizens.”

The Golan Heights are a rocky plateau in southwestern Syria, about 60 km (40 mi) southwest of Damascus. Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the latter stages of the 1967 Six-Day War.

Most residents fled the area during the conflict. A ceasefire line was established and the region came under Israeli military control.
