A serious event happened in Brazil, where Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei passed away.

The BBC reports that the athlete was burned with gasoline a few days ago by her boyfriend.

Dikson Ndiema Marangach is reported to have entered the athlete's house with a container of 5 liters of petrol.

Cheptegei had gone to church with their children and when she returned, the man poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

As a result of the attack, she suffered burns on 80 percent of her body, while yesterday evening she passed away.

The 33-year-old athlete's boyfriend, Dikson Ndiema Marangach, also suffered burn injuries during the attack. He was also admitted to the same hospital with about 30 percent burns.

It is thought that the cause is a conflict over a land. The couple also has two children.
