Donald Trump declared on Saturday that his relationship with billionaire donor Elon Musk has ended, warning that there will be "serious consequences" if Musk continues to support Democratic candidates who challenge Republicans who support the president's sweeping tax and spending bill.

In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump explained the situation, saying there was no discussion of any investigation into Musk, but hinted that there would be consequences for his actions, without providing further details.

“I would assume, yes, the relationship is over,” Trump said, confirming the end of his relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO. When asked if there was any chance of repairing the relationship, Trump was blunt: “I have no intention of talking to him.”

However, Trump clarified that he has no intention of terminating US government contracts with Musk's companies, such as Starlink and SpaceX, which have had relationships with the White House for various operations, including providing satellite services and launching rockets.

Tensions between Trump and Musk intensified this week, after Musk criticized Trump's bill as an "abomination" and opposed efforts to pass it in Congress. That has made it more difficult for the Trump administration to pass the law in a Congress where Republicans hold narrow majorities in the House and Senate.
