A small plane flying from Juardo, a province near the border with Panama, to Medellin, Colombia, crashed on Wednesday evening, only to be found two days later in a rural area of ??the municipality of Urraos, about 120 kilometers from Medellin.
The 10 passengers on the plane died, as confirmed by Dagran director Carlos Andrés Ríos, as the bodies were found around 1:00 p.m. this Friday by aid agencies that arrived in the emergency area.
Governor Andrés Julián Rendón reported that rescue organizations found no survivors: "The government of Antioquia expresses its regret, with deep pain, for the sad news of not finding any survivors in the plane that crashed in Urrao."
In this Cessna 402C plane crash, captains Santiago Montoya (pilot) and Luis Guillermo Clavijo (co-pilot) lost their lives, as well as Raquel Palacios, Angie Sanclemente Palacios, Cristal Sofía Palaciosández, Greimar Castro Sanclemente and Grettel Castro San Clemente, five members of the same family. Danny Moreno Culma, Miguelina García and Yoarledis Valencia also died.
Eight of the victims were from this municipality and most of them were visiting for the New Year's holidays. They were preparing to return to their current places of residence, so they had taken this private flight that was supposed to take them to Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellín, but there was an accident while flying over El Burro hill.
The disappearance was reported at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and a ground and air search began immediately. However, weather complications made the search difficult and forced it to be suspended on several occasions.
