Terror in Mexico/ The 'Los Tequileros' gang kills the mayor and 17

At least 18 people were killed and 2 others were injured as a result of an armed attack in the city of Totalapan.

The attack was carried out by a masked group, while the motives are thought to be related to drug trafficking.

Among the victims is the mayor, Conrad Mendoza, and his father, who also previously ran the city hall.

San Miguel Totolapan is a remote town in Tierra Caliente, which is one of Mexico's most conflict-ridden areas, due to numerous drug-trafficking gangs.

In 2016, locals tired of kidnappings by the local gang "Los Tequileros" kidnapped the mother of its boss to push for the release of the others.
