A masked youth wearing a bulletproof vest stabbed at least five people yesterday, one of whom was injured and hospitalized in a serious condition, before being neutralized. The incident took place in the garden of a mosque in Eskisehir (Dorylaion) in northwestern Turkey.
The suspect, 18, armed with a large knife, filmed and streamed his act live on X before being arrested by police and taken into custody.
Some Turkish media spoke of seven wounded and one dead. "The attacker was dressed like a video game character, had an ax hanging from his waist, a bulletproof vest, a helmet and a mask," Eski?ehir Durum news site reported.
Self-filmed footage shows the young man wearing glasses over a mask with skull-like features on the lower part of his face.
Turkish websites also reported that he was wearing a "black sun" - a Nazi symbol consisting of three swastikas - on his chest. The attacker did not claim responsibility for the act, Cumhuriyet newspaper said, adding that he may have been "under the psychological influence of war video games".
