Starmer holds final cabinet meeting, Andy Burnham takes over government next week

Sir Keir Starmer will hold his final cabinet meeting in Downing Street this Wednesday, ending his term as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

After meeting with ministers, Starmer will appear in parliament for a final showdown with the opposition leader, Kemi Badenoch, in the Prime Minister's Questions (PMQ) session.

British media report that during the cabinet meeting, his aides will greet him with a card and a symbolic gift, thought to be a desk clock.

This will also be the last session before the summer recess of parliament, which adjourns on Thursday and does not return until September.

Meanwhile, Andy Burnham is expected to take office as prime minister next Monday. The Conservatives have criticised the decision not to prorogue parliament, arguing that the new prime minister would not be able to answer questions from MPs for more than six weeks after taking office.

On the other hand, Burnham's team says he will hold meetings and answer questions from citizens across the country during the summer, calling this a new approach to running government.
