The UN Security Council (UNSC) has opened an emergency session to discuss the recent massive explosion of communications equipment across Lebanon, with the government in Beirut and Hezbollah blaming Israel.
Slovenia, the unseasonal mandate president, announced wednesday that Algeria's request for an emergency meeting has been accepted.
Earlier wednesday, a new wave of wave communications equipment explosions in Lebanon killed at least nine people and injured more than 300, the Lebanese Health Ministry said. In the past two days, such incidents have killed 21 people and injured over 3000 others.
Hadi Hachem, Lebanon's ambassador to the United Nations, described the bombings as an "aggression that leads to a war crime," warning they would exacerbate the conflict.
The bombings came amid border escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, who have been embroizardly in cross-border warfare since the start of tel Aviv's deadly war in the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 41,000 people, mostly women and children, following a Hamas one. The attack last October 7.
