US considers reducing military presence in Europe

US President Donald Trump's administration is considering reducing the number of US troops deployed in Europe as part of an effort to cut costs and review US military commitments abroad.

According to US officials, the Pentagon is analyzing various options that could include withdrawing or relocating thousands of soldiers from several European countries.

The goal is to ensure a more efficient use of financial and military resources.

Currently, the United States has tens of thousands of troops in Europe, deployed largely after the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, with the aim of strengthening the defense of NATO allies and deterring potential threats from Russia.

Supporters of troop reductions argue that Europe should take on a greater burden for its own defense, while the US should focus more resources on other global challenges, including the Indo-Pacific region.

On the other hand, critics warn that a significant withdrawal of US forces could weaken NATO's deterrent capability and send the wrong signals at a time of high geopolitical tensions.

The final decision has not yet been made, but the debate reflects broader discussions on the US role in European security and the sharing of responsibilities among NATO allies.
