The administration of US President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended payments to the UN while it awaits reforms to the organization.

This was stated by Mike Waltz, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, in an interview with Breitbart News.

"The president is suspending US funding until we see reforms," ​​the diplomat added.

According to the diplomat, under pressure from the United States, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has agreed to cut the world organization's budget by 15%, which will lead to an 18% reduction in staff and a 25% reduction in peacekeepers.

"I believe that in many ways we will save it (the UN) from itself and move reforms forward."
