USA/ 22-year-old stabs passers-by, 4 dead and several injured

Four people are dead and seven others were injured in a stabbing in several areas of Rockford, Illinois on Wednesday afternoon, CNN reports.

Five of the injured were taken to hospital in serious condition. The suspected author of the incident, a 22-year-old man, was arrested by the police.

Five people were injured in the city of Rockford and two people were injured in the Winnebago, Rockford police spokeswoman Michelle Marcob told CNN.

According to the police, not all people were injured with a knife. Speaking at the press conference, Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara said he was "absolutely shocked by this act of violence and the impact it is now having on the lives of so many families."
