The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, will not be extradited to the United States of America. The court in the United Kingdom in the conclusion of the decision asked for guarantees from the American authorities that he would not be sentenced to death for the charges of espionage.

The decision means that his almost 10-year legal battle will continue and that Julian Assange will continue to remain in London's maximum security prison, where he has been held for 5 years. 

" The court's decision is surprising. The courts recognize that Julian is exposed to a blatant denial of his rights to freedom of expression, that he is being discriminated against on the basis of his nationality as an Australian, and that he remains exposed to the death penalty. It that the courts have not agreed to look at is evidence that the United States has conspired to kill Julian, to kidnap him, because if they accept him then of course he cannot be sent to the US ," said Stella Assange, Julian Assange's wife.

US prosecutors want the 52-year-old to be tried on 18 counts, based on the Espionage Act, related to the publication of secret US military and diplomatic documents on his website, Wikileaks.

US authorities have promised that Assange will not be sentenced to death, but British judges said that " nothing in the existing guarantee explicitly prevents the imposition of the death penalty ".

If these guarantees are not given, Assange would be given the right to appeal. Assange's legal troubles began in 2010, when he was arrested in London at the request of Sweden, which wanted to question him about allegations of rape and sexual assault made by two women. In 2012, Assange surrendered on bail and sought refuge inside the Ecuadorian embassy.
