The Greek Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family reports that there are 800,000 empty homes in the country, a figure that represents 12% of the entire housing stock in Greece.

The data was actually conveyed by  director  Mando Zisopoulou, according to whom the number in question could serve to alleviate the housing crisis in the country.

According to her, the apartments that are empty are not in areas of social pressure but in the southeastern Aegean or the Ionian islands.

In technical terms, the stock in question is largely, 22%, built before the 1960s, 1/3 of them between the 1960s and 1/80s, which suggests that they need massive funds for reconstruction and renovation.

The Greek government is planning a 500 million euro fund to renew a stock that Zisopoulou calls a "hidden treasure."

Tirana has been reporting the same problem for years, namely thousands of empty apartments.

But unlike Greece, here we are talking about new apartments.
