Vladimir Putin's cancer operation will force him to hand over power in the Ukraine war "for days," a "Kremlin insider" told the Daily Mail.

Putin will reportedly bring to power the head of the hardline Security Council and former FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev as he handles the operation. Patrushev, 70, has played a major role in the Ukraine war so far and has convinced Putin that Kiev has been occupied by neo-Nazis, the Daily Mail reports.

A year and a half ago, the SVR general reported that Putin was suffering from stomach cancer and Parkinson's. The Daily Mail reports that Putin has postponed the operation and it will not take place before the commemoration of Russia's Victory Day in Red Square on May 9.

The operation was originally scheduled for April, but has been postponed, reports SVR.

"Putin was advised to undergo an operation, the date of which is being discussed and agreed upon," the newspaper said. "It seems there is no special emergency, but it can not be delayed either."

He added: "Russian President Vladimir Putin has oncology and the most recent problems identified during his recent examination are related to this disease."

Vladimir Putin's cancer surgery comes at a time when there is speculation that Russia will launch a full-scale war across Ukraine.

The Kremlin has always denied that Putin has medical problems as he portrays him to be in perfect health, even when he has mysteriously lost several times in recent years, reports the Daily Mail.

The SVP stated that "Putin has discussed that he will undergo medical procedures. "Doctors insist he needs an operation, but the date has not been set yet," according to the Daily Mail.

The source added: "I do not know exactly how long, he will be disabled after the operation… I think he will be for a short time."
