Turkish professor warns of apocalyptic earthquake in Manisa: The city is built
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür

Even after the devastating earthquakes that affected the country more than a year ago, Turkey has been continuously hit by earthquakes, constantly evoking fear among citizens, especially in some areas where even the earth "has not yet found peace".

For a long time, various experts and geologists have raised warnings about occasional tremors, while they have not ruled out other apocalyptic tremors, such as the 7.7 on the Richter scale that caused hundreds of casualties.

The next warning, for the umpteenth time, was given by the pedagogue of the Technical University of Istanbul and the geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, who raised the alarm for the city of Manisa. Stating that the city is built on active fault lines, he said that these live faults have the potential to produce earthquakes of magnitude 7 and above and therefore earthquake resistance in the city should be increased.

According to  Turkish media , Görür, who participated in a panel, noted that fault lines in Manisa spread towards the edges of mountains, slopes and interior plains and stated that the city has "Horst and Graben" soil features.

"You live in a tectonic structure and earthquakes will definitely occur in this tectonic structure. If it doesn't happen today, it will happen tomorrow, if it doesn't happen tomorrow, it will happen the next day. Therefore, there is no point in talking about whether there will be," Görür said

Görür pointed out that earthquakes should be taken seriously by learning from history. Stressing that earthquakes cannot be prevented, but their effects can be reduced, Görür said:

"You are the property owners of Manisa, the living people, the owners of this country. Use your will, protect your property. Never become one with politics. But whoever comes, make Manisa a resilient city. The earthquake is the pulse of the world. If there are no earthquakes, the world dies. The earthquake shows that the world is alive. But if we sit on the arm of the earthquake and do not take the necessary measures, it will kill us."
