Armenia-Azerbaijan war breaks out, all night bombing on the border

Armenia and Azerbaijan have reported fresh border clashes that left an unknown number of Azerbaijani troops dead.

The fighting, which erupted early on Tuesday, marks the latest flare-up between the arch-enemies, who fought a war in 2020 over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Relations between the two former Soviet republics have been strained since 1991 over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. The conflict over its control escalated again in the fall of 2020, when a 44-day war broke out, during which Azeri forces took control of several sectors.

The war ended thanks to a peace deal brokered by Russia, but Baku and Yerevan have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire along the border.
