King Charles has delivered his first speech to members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords as king. The greetings were preceded by members of both bodies who on the one hand honored Queen Elizabeth with their speeches while expressing their respect for the new king.
King Charles III said he was "deeply grateful" after discovering what Queen Elizabeth meant to everyone. Using a quote from Shakespeare, the new king of the United Kingdom said: "As Shakespeare said of Queen Elizabeth I, she was a model for all living princes."
"As I stand before you today, I cannot help but feel the weight of history that surrounds us and that reminds us of the vital parliamentary traditions to which members of both Houses commit themselves with such personal commitment to the betterment of us all." emphasized the young king Charles III.

"My Lords and Members of the House of Commons, we gather today to commemorate the extraordinary span of the Queen's dedicated service to her nations and peoples. Her late majesty "pledged to serve her country and her people and uphold the precious principles of constitutional government that lie at the heart of our nation," he says.
It sets an example of selfless duty, which, with God's help and your advice, I am determined to follow faithfully," added the King. British Prime Minister Liz Truss and opposition leader Keir Starmer were also present at Westminster Hall, where the ceremony took place.
At King Charles III's side was the royal wife, Camilla. Accompanied by his wife, the king will later travel to Edinburgh.
