Israel has shocked the foreign ministers of the European Union. The reason for this is a proposal that came from the head of diplomacy of the Jewish state, Israel Katz, at the important meeting in Brussels for peace in the Middle East.
EU foreign ministers were shocked when a video showing the plan to build an artificial island in Gaza was shown on the monitor. Under Israel's plan, all Palestinians in the enclave could be moved to what is widely considered to be "a concentration camp."
"He should have made better use of the available time," said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell after the meeting, publicly showing his anger.
"The Israeli minister presented us with his plans for the artificial island off the coast of Gaza and for a rail link with India. He should have focused on security and explaining the high number of killings in Gaza," Borrell further underlined.
Katz has previously promoted his plan, when he served as transport minister in 2017, as an alternative location for Gaza's Palestinians, even asking the international community to pay for the construction of the artificial island, which would be controlled by Israel.
This comes amid growing anger with Benjamin Netanyahu's administration from close allies. Over the weekend, the prime minister rejected the two-state solution, in open defiance of US President Joe Biden's request.
